Dear NCC Club:

I hope that by now 2008 is bringing good things to each of your club members.

Every month I receive newsletters from clubs across the US and Canada telling about your many activities – everything from display contests, inventive games, road trips and make & takes. During the holidays many clubs host weekend open houses to view individual collector displays and the photos I’ve seen are great! There is some real talent out there!

I am inviting all clubs to select the person who best represents your club as an outstanding collector. It does not have to be the collector with the most pieces, the largest or best display. It might be that collector who always says yes when you ask for a volunteer, the person who is willing to pick up another club member whose car is in the shop, you know the type, the person that everyone likes and brings a smile to your face when they come to a meeting.

The rules are simple. To nominate a collector for this award, they must:

• Be a member in good standing with your club (current with their dues)

• Be willing to have another member of the club write a one page story about what makes them an outstanding member

• Provide photos of at least one of their personal displays or vignettes.

Each club selection will receive a letter and certificate of appreciation from Department 56 and will be a finalist for "Collector of the Year" who will be chosen from all the nominations from all the NCC member clubs. The collector of the year will be announced at the Region 8 Roundup in San Antonio, Texas in August, 2009. Deadline for nominations is May 1, 2009.
