Good Sunday morning,
First, a note to all of you biblical scholars, who will be so anxious to attack me on this. Pleases concede that my version of ‘The History Of The World,’ may be just as valid as that espoused by Mel Brooks! So please enjoy these Christmas cards in the same kind & loving spirit, just as they were intended.
Merry ‘Christ’mas,
Bernie
Greeting card #2
The name, "Bethlehem" means "House of the Fertility God".
There is irony in that name.
The population of Bethlehem 2,012 years ago was only between 300 to 1000 people, so Bethlehem was truly a ”little town,” when Christ was born.
Three thousand years before the birth of Christ, Bethlehem was a Canaanite settlement. They built the original walls around it Their walls did not survive. Romans also built walls around the towns that they occupied. Shown here is a portion of the Roman wall which once surrounded the city. A solitary Roman soldier stands his ‘watch’ at the gate.
Bethlehem was a stopping point on a caravan trade route. After crossing the vast Judean desert to the south, a caravan approaches the city gate.
